livMatS at Science Days 2025

From 23 to 25 October 2025, livMatS will be presenting experiments in materials science at the Science Days at Europa-Park Rust.

The Science Days will take place at Europa-Park Rust from 23 to 25 October 2025. Germany's oldest science festival offers schoolchildren of all ages a hands-on approach to science every year.

This year, livMatS will be presenting real super materials: Visitors will be immersed in the fascinating world of materials science with demonstrations of colour-changing plastics, soft robot arms that can grasp fragile objects, and DIY gummy bear slime.

At the livMatS stand you find the following exhibits and more:

  • Soft robotical gripper and other soft machines
Robots usually consist of hard parts and rigid joints. However, it would sometimes be practical if robots were soft and malleable. Researchers are therefore working on soft components. At Science Days, visitors can try out such components for themselves.

  • Understanding Polymer Chemistry with gummy bears and magical snow
Conventional plastics are often made from raw materials that are harmful to the environment. In an effort to address this issue, researchers are developing more sustainable alternatives. Polymer chemistry is crucial for understanding the structure, and therefore the properties, of such green polymers. In an experiment, visitors will create a slime from gummy bears, learning about the issues polymer chemistry addresses in the process.
