Projects
Synthesis of Adaptive Polymer Surfaces with Catechol and Boronates
Catechol units are known for their adhesive properties and reversible oxidation into quinones, which can undergo irreversible crosslinking when in close proximity. However, reversible cross-links can form in the presence of boronates, which can be switched electrochemically. The aim of the project is to produce catechol- and boronate-containing polymers and polymer networks and to apply these to various surfaces. The switchable configuration of the degree of cross-linking and surface polarity is intended to produce adaptive materials and components.
