Investigation of crystallinity, surface defects, surface functionalizations and nanostructure effects of triboelectric TiO2 electrodes (TriboNano)
Triboelectric energy occurs when two different materials come into contact and are then separated - offering a promising source of energy. However, we currently lack standardized methods for accurately characterizing and harnessing its capabilities.
My project aims to create a standardized characterization method for triboelectric materials. To do this, my work is broken down into two sub-aims: 1) create a measurement device with control over the measurement conditions (force, speed, humidity, temperature etc.) and 2) create a standard material for comparison. The pilot materials are TiO2 surfaces planar and nanostructured, which will investigate the influence of crystallinity, physical/chemical surface functionalization and the surface morphology on the triboelectric effect.
