Generation of Materials with Adaptive Mechanical Properties
Inspired from plants, this project aims to design materials having the capacity to alter their mechanical characteristics in response to environmental changes or an external trigger. The goal is to translate the adaptive mechanical properties of the material into stiffening or softening of the material. This leads to a proper shape change. Although such materials are stimulus-responsive, we design the form change to be permanent, so that the stimulus influence is “remembered” over a long period of time.
