Biological and bioinspired autonomous hygroscopic materials systems
My project focuses on developing bioinspired hygroscopic materials for environmentally responsive soft autonomous machines. By studying the motion of hygroscopic plants such as pine cones, the research aims to create novel actuators that react to changes in humidity. These actuators will integrate hygroscopic polymers with restrictive layers to enhance the adaptability and functionality of autonomous machines, paving the way for applications such as adaptive shading facade systems. The generation of such actuators will be carried out by the means of 3D/4D printing.
