Self-organization of adaptive bristle-bots with energy harvesting capacity
Biological organisms and artificial active particles tend to self-organize into swarms and patterns. Emergent phenomena of self-organization and self-assembly strongly depend on the properties of elements and the physics of their interaction. Building upon my previous work devoted to macroscopic self-assembly and bristle-bots, I aim to develop a bristle-bot system that can significantly change its behavior upon change of environmental conditions (temperature, illumination). To meet the objective, I will (1) investigate ways to use stimuli-responsive materials in the bristle-bot design, (2) demonstrate the dependence of the self-assembly process on the external environment, (3) assess the possibility of harnessing light to excite the vibrations in bristle-bots.
