Project
Abscission and self-repair in biological and artificial materials systems
Subproject
Mechanical modeling of abscission
In interdisciplinary collaboration with the botanical garden, my research aim is to conduct key parameters and their influence on abscission in plants using the example of Opuntia ficus-indica. For this purpose, I perform simulations of the mechanics of branch-branch junctions. My simulations will be used to study influence of junction geometries on the fracture properties of the plant.
